Goose hunters already are committing themselves to wake up well before dawn in freezing cold temperatures and head out into the fields or on the frigid waters. There are several different tools and methods of transporting your hunting decoys. The following is a list of five essential tools you’ll need to save time and successfully set up your hunting decoy spread this goose hunting season.
 

Goose Decoy Bags

Decoy bags are by far the most popular method of transporting goose hunting decoys. These bags come in all shapes, sizes and materials. Some of them are great, while others are often a waste of your money. The flexibility that goose decoy bags offer is more than enough for most goose hunters.

Don’t waste your time with netted bags. They almost always fall apart after a few weeks and can make for more trouble than they’re worth.

The square bottom bags make for easy loading and unloading of your decoys. I’ve tested several of them from Bass Pro, Cabela’s and Gander Mountain. They work very well and can save you a lot of time on those weary mornings.

You may always find a “pop up” bag that has a sturdy wireframe in it for easier access. You can these bags in all kinds of sizes. You’ll find some that are designed to carry a dozen of your Greenhead Gear decoy and Hidgon decoy.

Some bags come in much larger sizes and are often called two-person bags as their designed to be carried by two men. I recommend these when you’re not hunting waterfowl alone and you’ve got a massive hunting decoy spread.

The main thing to consider is the quality of the material and the size. You want to make an investment in something that is going to hold up over several seasons and be able to handle the adverse conditions that goose hunters often face.
 

Hunting Decoy Backpacks

Backpacks are great for alleviating some of the stress on your body and shifting the weight of the decoys on your back. These are recommended for goose hunters who like the mobility that they offer. You’ll be able to either carry another bag in your hands or you can use your free hands to pick up or set out your spread.

It’s important to pay close attention to the padding around the shoulder straps and the back padding on these backpacks. You also want to inspect the way it sits on your body. The best ones have a waist strap that will help you center the heavy load on your body.
